This past weekend Andy and I made the super quick and easy road trip up from Atlanta to Greenwood, SC for the South Carolina Festival of Flowers. I was super excited to get out of town and even more excited to spend it surrounded by beautiful gardens, flowers and greenery! It did not disappoint. Want to see more amazing topiary photos and activities? Keep reading!
The topiaries were just amazing and unlike anything I’ve seen before! I’ve been to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens once, but these cute South Carolina topiaries were up all over town and each one was cuter than the last. I really liked how each topiary was sponsored by a local organization or business. There was a cow sponsored by, who else, Chick-Fil-A and a few animals built by the local schools. On the first night of the official weekend, there’s even a Topiaries and Tastings Wine Walk which is probably the most fun thing ever and there were so many people in attendance!
Besides beautiful topiaries, the festival also featured many different activities that are fun for all ages. On the particular Saturday we went, there was a “Kidsfest” which featured jumpies, face painting, real life Frozen characters and tons of games to play. It was also combined with a farmers market that had handmade, local soaps, fruits and veggies. And sno-cones, can’t forget the sno-cones!
For the older crowd (and people like me), the antique car show was the hot spot. So many amazing cars from so long ago, I didn’t even realize they were still on Earth. I’m talking Ford Model T’s! There were also super fancy newer cars like fast Porsche’s and Ferraris. It was like a stroll through history from the perspective of a car.
Besides the activities happening in Uptown Greenwood, the Festival of Flowers has events spread out over the city and spread out over a few weekends. Although Andy and I opted not to run in the 5K race, we probably should have. There was also private garden tours, a golf tournament and an arts and crafts show. Live music was around every corner and the overall joyous feeling of the crowd was so exciting.
If you have the chance to attend the South Carolina Festival of Flowers, I highly suggest attending the main weekend! Stay in Greenwood and explore all there is to do in the area using this blog post from my South Carolina Road Trip guide.
I was gifted the trip to South Carolina, however, all opinions are truthful and my own. As usual!
